The working principle of a gear pump

A gear pump operates by the meshing and rotation of a pair of gears, which causes the working volume inside the pump housing to change, thereby drawing in and discharging liquid. When the driving gear is rotated by an electric motor or other prime mover, the sealed volume on the side where the gear teeth are disengaging increases, creating a local vacuum that draws liquid from the oil tank or suction line. On the side where the gear teeth are engaging, the sealed volume decreases, compressing the liquid and forcing it out through the discharge line. This process repeats continuously, enabling the continuous conveyance and pressurization of the liquid.
