A gear pump consists of components such as gears, a pump body, front and rear end covers, and a drive shaft. It features a compact structure that is easy to manufacture and maintain. According to the nature of meshing, gear pumps can be classified into external gear pumps and internal gear pumps.
External gear pump: Two gears of identical size mesh and rotate against each other within a tightly fitted housing whose interior resembles an "8" shape. This type of gear pump features a simple structure, light weight, low cost, reliable operation, and a wide range of applications.
Internal gear pump: It consists of a pair of meshing internal gears, a crescent-shaped component located between them, and a pump housing. The crescent-shaped component serves to separate the suction chamber from the discharge chamber. Internal gear pumps offer advantages such as compact structure, small size, fewer parts, high rotational speeds up to 10,000 rpm, smooth operation, low noise, and relatively high volumetric efficiency. However, they suffer from significant flow pulsation and have a complex manufacturing process for the rotor.
